Kingfishers Grind Out 1-0 Win
|
Lee Wood, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2058 draft, was terrific for the Pittsburgh Kingfishers in his team's 1-0 triumph over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. His performance earned Wood rave reviews. Wood, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 3 walks. Frank Gagnon finished the game for Pittsburgh and earned his 3rd save.
Pittsburgh got a big at-bat from Willemstad, Curaçao native Maikel de Braber, who in the bottom of the second hit a solo home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Kingfishers ahead, 1-0.
"The old adage is true," said de Braber. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
Pittsburgh is in 9th place in the Premier League with a record of 19-29.
