Rainbow Mermaids Earn Late Win
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids topped the Toledo Stingers, 5-4, in United States Premier League action at Pacesetter Park. The standout performance belonged to Northern Virginia pitcher and Norwalk, Iowa, native Dustin Howard. Rob Camp notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. His record now sits at 2-0. Quinton Barnard earned the save, his 12th.
Northern Virginia used the timely hitting of James Murphy to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister.
Northern Virginia, at 23-27, sits in 6th place in the Premier League.
