Mockingbirds Get One-Run Win at Boston
|
Terry Ward, who is the 5th-best prospect in the Mockingbirds organization, was locked in. The right-hander led the Memphis Mockingbirds to a 4-3 win against the Boston Patriots at Dunkin Donuts Park. In 7 innings, Ward surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. The Patriots, at 34-25, have lost 5 in a row.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Butch Collins? The 27-year old second baseman Collins stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Memphis up, 3-2. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
After the game, Memphis manager Beau Carsten applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
