The Toronto Thunder beat the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 6-3, at Atlantica. The win was due in part to right fielder John Matthews, who went 3-6 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. With the victory, the Thunder record stands at 37-23.

Had Matthews not come through in the top of the 11th, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Matthews hit a 2-run home run. The Thunder took the lead, 5-3, and never looked back.

"I'm proud to wear a Toronto jersey," Matthews told the Toronto Daily. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"
