Battery Turn Back Dirty Reds, 4-3
|
The Charleston Battery scored a tight, 4-3 win versus the Dayton Dirty Reds at Charleston Armory. Charleston pitcher Pablo Valentín held his own in the contest. Valentín, now 4-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Juan Carlos Mejía, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 12th save.
With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, designated hitter Christian Weaver delivered big for the Battery. Charleston was trailing 3-0 when he belted a 3-run home run.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Valentín.
With the win, Charleston goes to 33-23, while the Dirty Reds fall to 36-20.
