Detroit Stadium was the site of a tense game between the Detroit Rock City and Cape Coral Hurricanes.
Bob Smithley never let Detroit get something going. The Cape Coral left-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the Hurricanes to a 2-1 win. Earning his 17th save for Cape Coral was Silas Jacobs.
Cape Coral took a 2-0 lead on Alex Thomas's 4th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Thomas hit in the top of the eighth, left Detroit pitcher Noel Sharp visibly frustrated.
"Watch and learn," said Thomas. "This is what good pitching looks like."
With the win, Cape Coral pushed its record to 38-32.
