Dirty Reds Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Bowties, 3-1
|
The Dayton Dirty Reds topped the Buckhead Bowties, 3-1, in Menard's Third League action at 5 Paces Park. The standout performance belonged to Dayton pitcher and Lisbon, Wisconsin, native Glenn Hughes. Hughes got the win, improving to 15-3. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 8.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. The Bowties, now 41-53, have lost 4 straight.
Gil Newell came through with a big-time hit for Dayton. The designated hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"That was a really good outing by Glenn," said Dayton manager David Dodds.
