Highlanders Take Tight Tangle
Carlos Chávez left his imprint on the 5-4 Asheville win against the Virginia Beach Whales. Chávez, who is tied for 8th in the 3AA in stolen bases with 3, went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Asheville pitcher Tommy Woods got the win, upping his record to 2-1. Cristovão Mineiro got the loss. The Highlanders have now won 6 straight.

The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Francisco Cardenas came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Virginia Beach pitcher Cristovão Mineiro, he hit a 1-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Asheville on top, 5-4.

"Just glad I could help us get a win," said Cardenas.
