The Asheville Highlanders rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher Jesús Varela to a win, beating the Pine Island Dolphins, 6-2, at Asheville Park. Asheville is now 18-14, Pine Island 16-16.

Claude Prigent had a big bases-clearing double for the Highlanders in the bottom of the second inning. With Asheville leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Andre Maccley and swatted a double to left. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Highlanders ahead, 5-0.

"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Prigent.
