The Asheville Highlanders and Pine Island Dolphins played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.

The Asheville Highlanders, behind a great outing from Neil Smith, who is tied for 9th in the 3AA in strikeouts with 36, defeated the Pine Island Dolphins, 3-1, at Asheville Park. Eric Sims recorded his 3rd save for Asheville.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Highlanders had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when shortstop Carlos Chávez hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Doeke Pouwelse and made the score 1-0, Highlanders. Chávez went 1-4.

"I executed the game plan," said Smith.

Asheville bumps their record to 19-14 with the win.
