Pine Island pitcher Andrew Johnson did his part in helping his team beat the Yakima Hops, 7-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. The winner was Johnson. He threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Clay Smith. Pine Island sits in 10th place in the Menard's AA at 16-18.
The Dolphins got a big at-bat from right fielder Juan Díaz. For the game, Díaz was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Pine Island a 3-0 lead.
"When Andrew is on, he can really move the ball around," said Pine Island manager Alfonso Dolton.
