The Virginia Beach Whales could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Chip Beatty into a win. Instead, the Casper Ghosts prevailed, 5-3, in 11 innings. Beatty threw 8.0 innings allowing 2 runs. The game-ending blow was delivered by Curt Gentry in the bottom of the 11th. That's when he hit a 2-run home run off 21-year old right-handed pitcher Júlio Migueles to win it for Casper and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.
