In a low-scoring contest, Toledo pitcher Gunadi Muljana was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 2-0 win. In 7 innings, Muljana surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. The Whales have now dropped 5 straight.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Adam Smith didn't flinch. With the bases loaded and Virginia Beach trailing 2-0, Smith retired Moe Locke to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Smith, with a wink.
