The Yakima Hops got a sterling performance from pitcher Clay Smith, but the Virginia Beach Whales still prevailed, 8-5. Smith came in in relief and pitched to 22 batters. Getting the save was Jack Barr, his 6th. With the win, the Whales are 23-45.

Virginia Beach took the lead, 8-5, on Will Lewis's 4th home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off Yakima pitcher Jesse Martin in the bottom of the eighth.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Whales manager Wilson López.
