With Late Score, Fur Traders Beat Hops
|
The Tacoma Fur Traders earned a close win over the Yakima Hops, thanks in part to Brian Gibson. The Tacoma right-hander, who is tied for 6th in the 3AA with a 1.17 WHIP, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Tacoma reliever Arturo Alvarado snagged the win, upping his record to 5-1. Clay Smith shouldered the loss. Ed Cook notched his 10th save in 12 chances.
Had Kazuki Kodama not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kodama hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Fur Traders.
"It's about putting our team in the best position to win ballgames," said Gibson.
With the win over Yakima, the Fur Traders improved to 52-42.
