Big Day for Ortega in 4-1 Rainbow Mermaids Win
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 30-year old right fielder Esteban Ortega, the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids stopped the Pittsburgh Kingfishers, 4-1. David Ramos, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-0. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The 9th-place Kingfishers have dropped 5 straight games.
With Northern Virginia leading 2-1 in the top of the seventh, Ortega hit a 2-run single off Pittsburgh hurler George Harris. It was the 42nd hit of the season for Ortega and put his team ahead, 4-1.
Ortega attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
