Fans of the Marquette Miners who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Marquette win over the visiting Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 4-2. Pepe Valentín started for the home team against Jeremy Bush. Pepe Valentín earned accolades for his performance. Valentín got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. He allowed no runs.

Marquette took a 4-0 lead on Choong-suk Yun's 1st double of the season. The 2-run double, which Yun hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Mercer Island pitcher Paul Jefferson visibly frustrated.

"I thought we played a nice game," Yun told the Marquette Chronicle. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
