Mercer Island wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Fernando López, falling to the Bethesda Atoms, 4-2. López threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The Atoms, at 15-15, sit in 5th place in the Premier AA.

Had John Curry not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Curry hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Atoms.

"We put together a nice win," Curry said.
