Gwinnett Loses Again, 5-4
|
The Squirrel Hill Pierogis did just enough to sneak past the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs, 5-4, at Field of the Rawhides. Squirrel Hill pitcher José Garza, in particular, had a standout performance. Garza, now 2-3, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 4, and allowing 4 runs. Milo Church locked down his 2nd save.
Jeff McElroy, who is tied for 4th in the PAA in strikeouts with 50, aided the Squirrel Hill cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the right fielder drove in one run.
Said losing manager Cary Collins: "These are the grinding hard days that all good teams go through, and this is when we've got to stick together and believe in one another."
Gwinnett now owns a losing streak of 7 games.
