Vipers Snag 5-3 Win

At The Ogre Den, the Olympia Ogres and Vancouver Vipers were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Olympia got a terrific performance from pitcher Jeff McDonald, but it wasn't enough to beat the Vancouver Vipers. Vancouver won the The Ogre Den contest, 5-3. McDonald threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The first-place Vipers improved to 31-20.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Rafael Zavala? The 24-year old second baseman Zavala stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Vancouver up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Our offense was purring," said Vancouver manager Rafael Longoria. "Like a well-oiled machine."
