Atoms Win Nail-Biter

The Bethesda Atoms did just enough to secure a victory over the Gulf Coast Turbeaus, 6-5, in 12 innings at Atoms Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Quan Situ. Bethesda reliever Robert Walls picked up the win, upping his record to 1-3. Jim Wilson was saddled with the loss. The Atoms saw their win-loss record go to 34-23. At the same time, the Turbeaus fell to 16-41.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 12th, 25-year old left fielder Henry Snider had a chance to be the hero. Gulf Coast pitcher Brandon Martin wanted to foil that plan. But with two outs, Snider drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Atoms had themselves a thrilling win.
"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Esteban Garza, the Bethesda manager.
