Screaming Eagles Drop Guinea Pigs, 2-1
|
Gwinnett pitcher Rod Pritchard gave the Screaming Eagles all they could handle, but in the end, Mercer Island left Mercer Island Grounds with a win, 2-1. Pritchard allowed no runs on 3 hits over 7 innings. Mark Moss, the winner, improved to 4-3. He held the Guinea Pigs to 1 run on 5 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Henry Ball earned the save for Mercer Island, his 2nd of the year.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Screaming Eagles had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the first, when right fielder Jiao-long Tow hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Gordon Whittier and made the score 2-0, Screaming Eagles. Tow went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"Our pitching was the difference tonight," Tow said.
The Screaming Eagles are now 28-31, while the Guinea Pigs fall to 27-32.
