The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis converted a terrific effort from starter Bob Ashley into a win over the Marquette Miners at Mariachi Band Shell. The Mariachis won the game by a final score of 2-1. The winner was Greg Kirkpatrick in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Sancho Sánchez took the loss. The win puts the Mariachis at 32-29, while the Miners drop to 30-31.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Nuevo Mexico third baseman Bruce Wood, facing Bo Taylor, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Mariachis the 2-1 win.
Nuevo Mexico manager Allen Carlson commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
