Mariachis Win, 7-3, Extend Streak to 4 Games
|
William Nevárez, who is tied for 10th in the PAA in wins with 5, was locked in. The right-hander led the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis to a 7-3 win against the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs at Experimental Stadium. Greg Kirkpatrick, credited with the save, is now 5 for 5 in save opportunities. Nuevo Mexico has 4 straight wins, Gwinnett 3 straight losses.
Nuevo Mexico used the clutch hitting of Donnie MacKim to snag the win. The center fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mariachis ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"William's not intimidated by who's stepping into the batter's box," said Nuevo Mexico manager Allen Carlson.
