Gwinnett Gets 5-2 Win
|
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs rode a solid performance from 22-year-old starting pitcher Brooks Brown to a win, beating the Vancouver Vipers, 5-2, at Vipers Ballpark. Gwinnett reliever Sean Long was the winner. His record is now 4-1. The losing pitcher was Jean-Jacques Grimaud. Matt Griffin wrapped it up, recording his 19th save.
Gwinnett used the clutch hitting of Wyatt Hathaway to snag the win. The shortstop drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"We put our best foot forward tonight," said a smiling Hathaway.
The Guinea Pigs now have a mark of 34-39.
