Vipers Pick Up 7-3 Win
|
The Vancouver Vipers beat the Crescent City Krewe, 7-3, at Vipers Ballpark. The win was due in part to first baseman Jorge Hernández, who went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Juan Zanudo earned the win for Vancouver. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 2-2. The first-place Vipers have a one-game lead in their division.
Hernández contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Vancouver in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Hernández took a fastball from Bill Darcy and stroked the home run to left. His 20th home run of the season allowed the Vipers to leap in front, 3-1.
Hernández told the Vancouver Daily News: "I think I thrive on conflict. It brings out my best."
