Atoms Defeat Liberty Academy in 11

Behind a solid performance from right fielder Neill Barthen, the Bethesda Atoms defeated the Philadelphia Liberty Academy, 7-4. Barthen was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs for the Atoms. Hunter Holman, now 2-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Ron Lee.
Gary Baxter went 1 for 4 with a double and a walk for Bethesda. With no one out and the game tied in the top of the 11th inning, Baxter, who is rated as the 2nd best prospect by BNN, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Philadelphia hurler Juan Zapata, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Atoms a 5-4 lead.
"We take it day by day here," said Barthen, "and today was a good one for us."
The Atoms move to 48-42 with the win, while the Liberty Academy drop to 40-50.
