Miners Stick Screaming Eagles with 3-1 Loss
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Mercer Island Grounds. But 25-year old center fielder Aloysius Minch produced just enough offense to carry the Miners past the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 3-1. Minch went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Marquette starter Arturo Santos was credited with the win after throwing 92 pitches over 7.2 innings. His record now stands at 4-2. Marquette is 44-46 and Mercer Island, with the loss, 39-51.
There was more than one reason the Miners beat the Screaming Eagles, but Minch's big at-bat in the top of the third was an important factor. He staked his team to a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"Tough loss," said Mercer Island manager Eric Todd. "But we'll learn from it."
