Caldwell Chiefs starter Carlos Pereira turned in a top-notch performance against the Columbia River Rats at Pipers Ballpark. The result was a win for the Chiefs, 3-1. Elliott Halcomb picked up his 3rd save of the season. The Caldwell win streak is now 3 games.
José Valéncia had a big solo home run for the Chiefs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Caldwell leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from Juan Hernández, who is tied for 4th in the 3A in quality starts with 6, and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Chiefs on top, 2-0.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Chiefs manager Jorge Agramunt, "I like our chances."
