Airmen Use Late Score to Top Torch, 5-4
|
Alameda beat Mancelona at Alameda Field, eking out a 5-4 win. The triumph was primarily due to designated hitter Alain Bernard. He was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk. Chris Weber, now 2-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. Todd Lee, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 12th save.
Jurrie Kila helped out the Alameda cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the pinch hitter was 1 for 2.
Bernard expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
The Airmen, at 23-21, have now won 4 straight.
