The Pontiac Godfathers had to overcome a fine effort from Washington pitcher Francisco Torres to win, 5-4, at Pontiac Copperdome. Torres went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The 5th-place Godfathers now sit at 27-20.
Had Russ Jones not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Jones hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Godfathers.
Jones told a Pontiac Today reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
