Chiefs Score Late to Upend Bulls, 4-1
|
Caldwell and Belleville got after it at Belleville Field.
The Caldwell Chiefs faced a tough opponent in Belleville pitcher Trevor Park, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Belleville Field by a final score of 4-1. Park went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Evan Collins was the winner in relief. His record is now 3-1. The losing pitcher was Scot Dixon. Ken Weaver picked up the save, his 4th.
Caldwell used a timely hit from Raúl Guerrero to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"We take it day by day here," said Guerrero, "and today was a good one for us."
Caldwell, at 32-39, occupies 10th place in the Menard's A.
