Reapers Suffer One-Run Loss at Walla Walla
|
The Walla Walla Walleye did just enough to sneak past the Grim Reapers, 2-1, at Walleye Tank. Walla Walla pitcher Greg Stone, in particular, had a standout performance. Stone, now 1-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Mark Conner closed it out for Walla Walla, earning his 2nd save.
The Reapers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Walleye going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old center fielder Ze-dong Jen came to the plate. Jen hit a solo home run on a 2-2 fastball from Grim hurler Jimmy Numbers. It was Jen's 2nd home run of the year.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Jen.
The Walleye have now won 4 straight.
