Herons Deal Yellows 5-4 Loss
|
Yucca Valley got a terrific performance from pitcher Dan Gibbs, but it wasn't enough to beat the Holy City Herons. Holy City won the Mango Yard contest, 5-4. Gibbs threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Jesse Parker, now 2-2, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. The 7th-place Herons lifted their record to 15-18.
The decisive blow was delivered in the bottom of the tenth when Joe Reaveley hit a run-scoring double off 22-year old right-handed pitcher Jesús Hernández to win the game for Holy City. The home crowd went wild.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Yucca Valley manager Ernest Orr. "The effort was great."
