The Columbia River Rats locked up a win at Smokies Stadium, knocking off the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus, 3-1. On the mound for Columbia was left-hander Woody Adkins. He played a major role in the triumph. The victory gives Columbia a record of 25-24.

Columbia used a well-timed hit by Boyd Pugh to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the River Rats ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"It's so much easier when you throw good pitches," said Adkins.
