Reapers Use Late Surge to Win
|
The Grim Reapers faced a tough opponent in Holy City pitcher Jeremy Hull, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Mango Yard by a final score of 5-2. Hull went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs. Cecil Cornett picked up the win, lifting his record to 3-4 on the season. He struck out 4 and walked 0 in 7 innings, while yielding 2 runs. Kyle Warren earned the save for Grim, his 9th of the year.
Grim used the timely hitting of Roberto Duarte to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Reapers on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Duarte called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
The 9th-place Reapers own a record of 17-32.
