Reapers Suffer 6-3 Setback
|
Grim got a decent performance from pitcher Juan Torres, but it wasn't enough to beat the Alaskan Bush Pilots. Alaskan won the The Coffin contest, 6-3. Torres threw 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Charles Reeves was the winner. Over 7.2 innings, he yielded 3 runs on 10 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. With the win, the Bush Pilots have a record of 38-36.
Had Charlie Lawson not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Lawson hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Bush Pilots.
Alaskan manager Arturo Montáñez was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
