Vandals Come Up Short at Smoky Mountain, 4-3
|
Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus and Eugene Vandals.
The Smoky Mountain Hobeaus knocked off the Eugene Vandals, 4-3, in USPL Single A action at Smokies Stadium. Smoky Mountain pitcher and Crawfordsville, Indiana, native Anthony Wright had an outstanding performance. The winner was Wright. He threw 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Shane Park.
In the bottom of the fifth, Smoky Mountain third baseman Jian-guo Cuan had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and one out, Cuan stroked a run-scoring single to left. It made the score 4-3, Smoky Mountain. For the game, he went 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Eugene manager Milton Mathews.
With the win, Smoky Mountain pushed its record to 13-12.
