Huntington Hermit Crabs starter Wayne Hughes pitched a strong game against the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus at The Shell, leading the Hermit Crabs to victory, 7-3. The Hermit Crabs raised their record to 15-16.

The Hobeaus had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hermit Crabs going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old third baseman Martín Vargas came to the plate. Vargas hit a grand slam home run on a 1-1 slider from Smoky Mountain hurler Wanko Wasko. It was Vargas's 2nd home run of the year.

"It never gets old," said Vargas. "Winning, that is."
