The South Beach Blaze took Monroeville pitcher Ogai Sugimoto's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Ballpark on the Beach. The final score had South Beach getting past the Yinzers, 7-2. Sugimoto went 6 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 7. Chad Morris earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record is now 3-1. With the victory, the Blaze record stands at 23-18.
South Beach went in front, 3-2, on Curtis Thomas's 1st home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Thomas hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Monroeville pitcher Bob Powell visibly perturbed.
"I thought we played a nice game," Thomas told the South Beach Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
