Blaze Get Clutch Win Versus Philadelphia
|
Philadelphia wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Nick Jacobs, falling to the South Beach Blaze, 2-1. Jacobs threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball for the losing team. South Beach reliever Chad Morris picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Nick Jacobs was saddled with the loss. George Young earned the save, his 3rd.
South Beach used the timely hitting of Alvin Gardner to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Blaze on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Tough loss," said Philadelphia manager Rio Bavin. "But we'll learn from it."
South Beach is now 28-22.
