Liberty U-24 Lose at Home, 3-1
|
The Eugene Vandals went home winners at Liberty Youth Field, thanks in large part to starter Edgar Liriano. Liriano stifled the Philadelphia Liberty U-24, enabling Eugene to grab the 3-1 win. Denis Morris earned his 15th save in 17 chances. At 50-42, the Vandals find themselves in 4th place in the Premier A.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Vandals had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the fourth, when catcher Chris Whitehead hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Jacob Hewitt and made the score 2-0, Vandals. Whitehead went 1 for 4.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Eugene skipper Milton Mathews.
