The Beaumont Crossbeaus downed the Maine Sea Dogs, 5-1, at The Target. Stellar pitching by Juan Velásquez had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who leads the SA- in innings pitched with 56.0, handcuffed his opponent all game. Velásquez, who leads the SA- in innings pitched with 56.0, went the distance for Beaumont. He gave up 1 run on 9 hits. With the win, Beaumont goes to 15-15, while the Sea Dogs fall to 16-14.

Beaumont third baseman Alfonso Torres said the only thing on his mind when he came to bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the sixth was making good contact. He did that much, and more! Torres hit a solo home run to stake Beaumont to a 2-1 lead. His 2nd home run of the season came off Maine pitcher Jerry Barnes.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Torres. "You've got to get results."
