Shockers Suffer 5-2 Road Loss
|
Beaumont pitcher Juan Velásquez had a large part in his team beating the Surprise Shockers, 5-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winner was Velásquez. He threw 8.0 innings allowing 2 runs. The loser was Adrian Simionescu. Rory Sherman wrapped it up, recording his 9th save.
The Crossbeaus got a big at-bat from left fielder Eddie Thomson. For the game, Thomson was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Beaumont a 3-2 lead.
Thomson attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
The Crossbeaus improved their record to 22-24 with the win over Surprise.
