Ricardo Rentería, who leads the SA- in quality starts with 9, imposed his will on the Rams from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the right-hander spearheaded the 4-1 Surprise triumph. Rentería, now 6-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The save went to Chris Bailey, his 3rd this season.

Surprise right fielder Fernando Fernández landed a blow when he belted a 3-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. It was his 1st home run of the season. With it, the Shockers took a 3-1 lead.

"I like our mindset right now," said Surprise manager José Montalópez.

The Shockers saw their record improve to 31-23.
