7-3 Loss Deepens Moose Jaw Funk
|
The Long Island Ducks beat the Moose Jaw Canucks, 7-3, at Ducks Park. Stephen Appleby, who is tied for 10th in the 3A- in home runs with 5, starred for Long Island. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The winning pitcher was Jake Best. His record now stands at 3-0. The left-hander went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits for the Ducks. The Canucks, now 2-26, have lost 11 straight.
Appleby contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Long Island in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Appleby took a fastball from Kahakuokahale Leilani and stroked the home run to right-center. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Ducks to leap in front, 4-2.
