Long Island and Greenport played a hard-fought contest.

The Long Island Ducks converted a terrific effort from starter Larry St. John into a win over the Greenport Harbor Whales at Ballpark of Robbins. The Ducks won the game by a final score of 3-1. The winning pitcher was St. John, now 6-2. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 3. Tim Manning got the save, the 10th for him this season.

Walt Moggs cracked a home run off Dan McFarland in the top of the third. His solo blast put the Ducks on top, 1-0. In all, Moggs had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Moggs.

The loss makes Greenport 20-21.
