The Long Island Ducks could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Ellis Jackson into a win. Instead, the Greenport Harbor Whales prevailed, 3-1, in 10 innings. Jackson threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball. Greenport reliever Haden Charles was the winner. His record is now 2-3. The losing pitcher was James Harrell. Long Island has now lost 4 in a row.
Greenport used the timely hitting of Will Caldwell to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Harbor Whales on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Tough ballgame, tough loss," said Long Island manager Cody Blackburn.
