Barton Springs Triumphs with Late Surge
Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the St. Petersburg Thunder were eager to watch Juan Torres square off against Richard Fernández of the visiting Barton Springs Blues. In the end, the Blues won the game, 5-1, with Richard Fernández leading the way. In 8.2 innings, Fernández surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Picking up the save was 26-year old right-handed pitcher William Richmond.

Ralph Garrison drove in one run for Barton Springs. The 28-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Troy Edwards. It was his 1st RBI of the season.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Garrison.
