Nobles Win by Slim Margin, 2-1

Bakersfield left-hander Nick Johnston helped his team edge Ellenburg by the score of 2-1. Johnston kept the opposing lineup in check. Rick Ernst picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Javier Vargas suffered the loss. Picking up his 15th save was 22-year old left-handed pitcher Ed Dodman.
Had Seppo Kimmonen not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Kimmonen hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Nobles.
In comments to the Bakersfield Herald, Kimmonen admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
The Nobles now have a mark of 31-25.
